We’re all getting super excited to travel again, whether it’s a short holiday or a longer traveling trip. If you’re looking to save some money on your travels, there are lots of ways that you can do this.
1 . Research free activities
While you’re traveling you’ll want to experience as many fun activities as possible. To avoid costs mounting up research free activities before you go. It’s likely that you’ll be able to find free museums and parks, but some cities like Paris even offer free introductory tours (check out Paris Greeters)! Beach days don’t need to be expensive, especially if you take a picnic. With enough research, you’ll create a good preliminary itinerary, and make the most of your time away. Of course, it’s impossible to ensure that all your activities are free! Planning your trip is all about balancing your spending.
Some posts on this site contain affiliate links, meaning if you book or buy something through one of these links, I may earn a small commission (at no extra cost to you!). Opinions are always my own and I’ll never promote something I don’t use or believe in. Also as an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
2. Use price comparison apps
If you’re looking for more savings consider using price comparison apps. With the help of these apps, you can search for the cheapest flights, hotels, hostels, transfers, and more. Try these options to make a start:
Kayak: You can use this app to compare flights from over 900 sites. With Kayak you can search for the cheapest offers, to make your money go further. You can search for car hire deals, hotels, and get alerts if prices go down. Use Kayak to access your boarding passes, or create a handy itinerary.
Sky Scanner: This is the most popular price comparison app out there, you can use Skyscanner to compare deals on flights, and find cheap deals on hotels. If you’re looking to save plenty of money on your trip, this is the app that you need.
3. Look out for travel discounts
If you’re serious about saving money on your travels then be sure to search for online discounts. NetVoucherCodes is one of the best places to search for travel discounts, using the site you can get discounts on holidays, cruises, baggage, parking, accommodation, and more. It’s easy to save money when you know where to look for deals! Make sure that you check out these discounts before you make any bookings.
4. Last minute deals
As the world recovers from the Queen (reference here), it’s still pretty difficult to plan trips in advance. Guidelines and restrictions tend to change frequently, especially when travel is concerned. The good news is, you can get some pretty great deals when you book holidays at the last minute. If you have the opportunity to be flexible, you’ll definitely be able to make plenty of savings.
5. Camping trips
You all know I love to camp! Camping trips are a great way to save money, these types of holidays are plenty of fun and not too expensive. There are lots of beautiful destinations to choose from all over the world. Check out the National Parks App to find info about epic national parks, plus nearby camping options. There are also many, many wonderful state and county parks that have great camping, as well as harder-to-reach spots like my favorite White Pocket. A camping trip incorporates so many other activities. Whether it’s hiking, swimming, water sports, or biking, you’ve got so many options to choose from. There are lots of benefits of taking a camping trip including:
- Experience the great outdoors and unwind.
- Spend lots of quality time with your family and friends.
- Potentially learn new skills.
- An eco-friendly way to travel and go on holiday.
6. Avoid always eating out
With so many delicious restaurants to try, it’s tempting to always eat out when you’re traveling. If you’ve rented an apartment, consider cooking a few nights instead. You’ll find plenty of fresh ingredients at your local supermarket. Try looking up a few local recipes, and treating yourself to a special homemade dish. There are lots of ways to save money if you get a little creative. Mr. Misadventures and I are masters of this and it is a great way to experience local cuisine!
7. Create a budget
Be sure to make a budget before you go traveling, a budget will help you to work out your spending for each day and week. Make a list of all the activities you’re planning, and how much you’ll need to spend on all of them. At this stage, you can also design a trip itinerary. Getting organized will ensure that you get to see the best sights, and fit in lots of fun experiences. There are many tools you can use to perfect your itinerary, including my favorite, Milanote.
Getting prepared for your travels will help you save. Avoid buying too many souvenirs, and focus on taking beautiful photos. Traveling is about creating memories, and not every experience needs to be super expensive. When you organize your spending you’ll have a more relaxing vacation.
